Her Fashion Box - March 2014 review

This month's Her Fashion Box is their 1st birthday box. Happy Birthday HFB! The gloss was kind of taken off though as it was sooooo late, although part of my was super super excited to see what they would include, being a birthday box, and for making us wait for so long! The delays were because they were late in getting some products which the didn't want to not include... hmmm. March's box was also again received in the mini box in a satchel. Two of the products and the HFB magazine were stuffed into the satchel as it all didn't fit in the mini box. Not great for a birthday box I must say! Here is what I received in the classic box this month:

 

My first impression was disappointment. Another scarf, another headband, another tanning product.....

HFB Moon of My Life scarf RRP $32.95

I'm fairly happy with this scarf, although we have seen them before. It is super soft and nice and big which is how I like my scarves. The print is a bit galactic - moons and stars. I can see myself getting a bit of wear out if it, especially as the weather gets colder. I tend to stick to blacks/greys in winter so this can help to add a little pop to an otherwise dark outfit.

 

HFB Sauron Ring RRP $12.95

This is a pretty cheap looking ring. It is (as with other HFB rings received) adjustable, which reminds me of those gumball machine rings. The large black stone isn't even glued on straight! It is a nice design though and I have others like this. I may wear it, or I may just give it to one of my nieces for their dress up box.

 

HFB Charmed Necklace RRP $29.95

Love this necklace! I have seen on facebook that others received their's broken but the one I received seems pretty sturdy so I'm happy with that! I have worn this a few times already and am loving it! I have had some nice compliments about this one, so another winner.

HFB Pink Pumice Stoner RRP $7.95

(Bonus gift)

This was a nice little touch I though. Love that it is pink! My current pumice stone is on it's last legs so this came at a perfect time. I like to keep my feet in top shape all through winter, even thought they are mostly covered up, so this is a great inclusion for me.

 

Le Tan in Le Can Instant Bronze (45g) RRP $6.99, 45g or $15.49, 150g

We did receive a tanner in last month's box so no points for creativity here! This is a good brand however, and I did receive a good colour for my skin.

 

Designer Brands Outrageous Volume Mascara (full size) RRP $9.99

A girl can never have enough mascaras (I think? This is what I keep telling myself when I look at my stash of 20-30 mascaras). I haven't yet opened this one up as I'm in two minds about gifting it to someone who needs it more than I. It apparently provides big volume similar to false lashes without clumping.

 

Argania Hair Oil (5ml sample) RRP $5.99, 5ml or $34.99 100ml

This oil is supposed to provide protection and reduce frizz without an oily residue, which sounds great! I am stocked up in hair oils so again I haven't opened this one but it does sound promising and I will review once I've given it a go.

 

Colour by TBN Moisturising Lipstick RRP $3.50

I recevied the colour '882 Kiss Me Under the Mistletoe" which is a corally kind of pink colour. I was however meant to receive colours on the nude spectrum so mine has been mixed up with the feminine box I would say.

It is not a very nice feeling lipstick, and it dries out my lips quite a lot. I found I had to put stacks of lip balm over it to help hydrate my lips, and this made the colour fade dramatically. I wouldn't try this again.

 

I also received a headband, which I am assuming is the gift for filling out February's survey. They didn't include a little note like they did for February's box which is another miss.

I've seen on facebook that others received a bag of lollies (which I think must be a birthday inclusion) but I didn't receive one!!!! Boo! I love lollies! (but I suppose my bum will thank me later).

 

Overall, I worked out this box to be worth roughly $110 based on their recommended retail prices. As with each month though, I don't know where they get their RRP for the fashion items and who would actually pay that much for them! The beauty items only added up to $34.42 which doesn't even cover the cost of the box....

 

After receiving this box, I made the decision to unsubscribe. I have had a couple of disappointing boxes and for the outlay of $39.95 per month it just wasnt worth it. The fashion accessories are more often than not very very cheap and flimsy and can only be worn once or twice before they fall apart. The beauty items are getting cheaper and cheaper and for me, it is just not worth it anymore. HFB used to be my favourite but they have just gone down hill a bit. I will be keeping an eye on them though and I hope they do get better so I can re-subscribe!
