Clinique Sonic System - Purifying Cleansing Brush Review

This cleansing brush is a relatively new release, the lovely Clinique sales assistant in Myer said it had only been out for a month or so. I'm pretty new to the world of cleansing brushes and the only one I've used is the Olay Regenerist, which was a good brush at first but after about a month's use it really started to upset my skin and made it more sensitive than normal. It was on a whim that I even discovered this one - I'd only gone to Clinique to talk about a hydrating eye cream when the SA told me about the Sonic System.

According to Clinique, the Sonic System is dermatologist developed to clean better where you need it most. It removes impurities for clear, healthy looking skin and clearer looking pores. The gentle sonic action cleans more effectively than hand washing alone, and

  • Swiss-engineered brush is shaped for targeted cleansing
  • Unique tilted head and sonic technology reaches deep into problem areas - forehead, chin and nose
  • Ergonomic handle
  • Waterproof - can be used in the shower

The Sonic System retails at $135 and comes with the cleansing brush, charging base with USB plug, purifying cleansing brush head and a brush cover. I also received the little adapter that plugs into the wall - something the SA gave me for free (and was seperate to the box) so I'm not 100% sure if that comes with it all the time or if it's an extra charge.

The brush itself is very light and is very easy to hold, it's shaped perfectly to hold in your hand. The logo C on the unit is the button to turn the brush on and off. I love the fact that this doesn't require batteries. You just put it in the charging unit and bob's your uncle! (Much like an electric toothbrush). When fully charged it can operate up to 3 hours without recharging.

The brush head is very soft and has two bristle types. The white is for your cheek area and neck, but you can tilt the brush and use the green bristles for around your nose and rest of your t-zone. There is no need to apply pressure at all, you just glide it over your skin. You can see the different bristles in the following pictures:

What is great about this is the actual unit vibrates rather than the bristles turning themselves (hopefully that makes sense!) which is why it feels so gentle and is so sensitive.

The best part of this brush (especially compared to a cheaper brand like the Olay Regenerist) is it turns off automatically after 30 seconds. It is recommended when first beginning to only use this for 30 seconds once per day, but you can build up to 1 minute, twice a day. I've used this now for 2 weeks, and I'm using it at night in the shower for 1 minute. I remove all my makeup first, then cleanse with this. Once you have finished you simply rinse the brush head and leave it to air dry.

Onto results! This brush really is divine. It leaves my skin silky smooth and feeling so soft. Best of all it is so gentle that you hardly even feel it on your skin, but it still does an amazing job of exfoliating.

For me, this brush was totally worth the $135 investment. It is so easy to use and has made a huge difference in my skincare routine and my skin is always left feeling silky smooth and clean. I'd highly recommend this brush over the cheaper alternatives. I can't comment on how this performs against the Clarisonic as I have only ever had one demonstration, but just going on demonstrations (the sticky tape on your hand one!) this seemed almost exactly the same in performance.

Do you use cleansing brushes? Do you think they are worth the price tag? Let me know if you have any questions!
