The I Quit Sugar Program - Week 6 Update

Well oh dear, things really took a turn for the worse this week... If you have read my previous posts you will know that I'm doing the I Quit Sugar 8 Week Program online (see their website here). Last week I fell a little off the bandwagon but luckily stepped right back on - mostly because I could control what sort of food was at my wedding so could ensure there were safe choices for me. I was going well until I hit my honeymoon....

First up, week 6 looked like this:
  • Meal Plan/Shopping List/Sunday Cook up
  • Weekend Read - all about different types of sweeteners in order to help us choose what is the best moving forward
  • Movement Plan - strength exercises (however I'm doing Kayla Itsines 12 week bikini body plan)
  • Try This - we introduce a little bit of sweetener this week! We also learnt which fruits are best to eat moving forward
  • Tuesday Eats - low fructose fruits are back in our diet. We were given a little trick to lesson the impact of blood sugar levels (very handy after being off it for so long)
  • Expert Tips - the IQS experts give their advice on how to be more mindful and how to listen to your body when adding sweetness back in to our diet (i.e how to not go crazy!)
Okay, so I had all intentions of sticking to the meal plan whilst I was on honeymoon. We stayed in an apartment with a kitchen, I brought my meal plans with me I was ready! But no, I fell off. I was in Mollymook - I didn't want to miss out! I drank alcohol, I drank diet coke, I drank Portello (oops - that was really bad), I had a shit load of seafood (oops again - deep fried) with mayonnaise (and not the good mayo), tomato based pasta, desserts (hello tiramasu. twice). In the previous weeks I had cut down on gluten and dairy but in 3 days I managed to eat more than I had in almost 5 weeks. Oh.My.God.

I actually did feel better than I would have thought after all that eating that crap - except for the tiramasu ... boy did that mess with my insides! I also got the runs something shocking... which is always fun on honeymoon! Emotionally though I felt guilty and awful and that I'd ruined all my hard work. The best part about this is the forums that are available on the website. There are many others who have fallen off the bandwagon and it's good to know I wasn't alone. It's also inspiring to see those same people post again the next day about how they got over their lapse. It makes it all a lot easier when you can talk through with like minded people exactly how you are feeling.

Overall, this week has obviously been a bit of a fail but to be fair I did get straight back into it when we arrived home. I had some smoothies, cooked some real food and felt good for it straight away. Lapsing this badly has really made me realise just how much I want to stay off sugar for good. Yes it was good and I did enjoy my 3 days of crap, but my body didn't enjoy it - nor did my skin - and I much prefer the way I feel when I'm eating well.

Here is to putting week 6 behind me and moving on to week 7!!
